How to Choose the Right Sewing Machine for You
Sewing Machines have come a long way. They help with the different types of sewing that you want to do. There are many accessories that can be purchased along with your machine and you will want that helps you in your sewing projects.
When shopping for a sewing machine, ask yourself what type of machine you want. Here is a list that can help you decide.
- What am I going to do with the machine?
- Do need just a basic machine?
- Do I want to have Quilting capability?
- Do I want to be to do Embroidery?
There are machines out there for a specific function and machines that have all 3 in them. You can do research on line. You can print off the information of the different machines and take this information with you. If you find a lower price on line, most dealers will try and price match it.
You also want to ask about the warranty. How long is the machine covered? Are there free classes with the machine? Are the repairs done in house? The website will give you the nearest dealer. Go to the dealer and see the machines. If you live farther away, call and make an appointment at the dealer. They will be happy to show you the machines and the capabilities of the different brands.
If you have a certain fabric that you are sewing on, take the fabric and sew on it on the machine. Ask about the different accessories that go with the machine. If you are going to do quilting ask about a walking foot and free motion feet. Are there books available about the feet and quilting? If you are going to do embroidery ask about the designs and how do I transfer these to the machine. Is special software needed? Are designs readily available?
Sit at the machine and sew on it. See if it fits you. Machines can be intimidating at first but once you get used to it, you will love it. Remember you love sewing and you want a machine that will help you to continue on in your craft. But it will also grow as you grow and learn more about your craft. Happy Sewing!
